Blackwell’s Philosophical Process of Technology, The Philosophy of Technology: The State of Technology (2003), plays a key role in the contemporary role of this branch of the discipline and takes this opportunity to publish, commenting on its current state of affairs. Both philosophy of science and philosophy of technology are the product of the twentieth century, but they each inherit a somewhat different set of philosophical traditions, sometimes exploring different problems. This article analyzes the basic developments in philosophy of technology in recent years, with emphasis on issues that may also be of great interest to scientific philosophers, including epistemological issues as well as environmental and cultural issues. References include about 50 books published in recent years in this area.
