K-Tron Arizone has developed a new type of microcomputer-controlled, digital scale-only balance. It enables laboratories to weigh extremely accurately and adapt to harsh industrial environments. The key to the stability of this new scale is that it has a digital quality sensor. Unlike conventional pressure measurement analogue load cells, this digital mass sensor directly measures the mass of an object in digital form without deviation. How it works Digital quality sensors do not rely on the displacement of sensitive components to measure the mass of the object under test. Instead, the digital load cell converts the measured load directly into an output proportional to the frequency. The load is applied to a pair of vibrating wires (see Figure 1), which changes the resonant frequency of the pair of wires. This change in frequency is proportional to the load being measured. The wire produced a deformation of only 0.0005 inches throughout the measurement.
