Korea Electric Power Company (KEPCO) has built two sets of “domestic-made” nuclear power units and signed a contract worth about one billion U.S. dollars with three domestic companies. The cooperation shows that South Korea is now able to use its own resources (not heavily dependent on Western investment) to engage in its ambitious nuclear power program. This KEPCO contract also highlights the status of Asia as a region where the world’s nuclear energy grows. The first “Korean-made” nuclear power unit (Emigration No. 3) was put into full operation only two months ago. Unit 4 of Lingguang Nuclear Power Plant is expected to begin in March 1996
