江西省玉山县蔗区分布在北纬28°40′,属丘陵地区,无霜期260天,最低气温-8.9℃,最低地温-13.1℃,冬季霜冻早,甘蔗生长期只有7个月。甘蔗到立冬才开始上糖,小雪至小寒前约45-50天是高糖期,榨期短,仅70天左右。由于受自然条件和制糖加工能力的限制,每年冬至以后尚有一部份甘蔗留在田间不能适时收获而遭受风吹、霜冻的为害,造成干枯损耗,给制糖工业带来巨大的经济损失。
