Gauguin is one of the most important artists in the history of modern art. In the history of art, Gauguin was shaped as a maverick artist who grew tired of modern civilization and went on to pursue the artistic ideal in the remote Tusiti Island. Art History also chronicles Gauguin’s life with Van Gogh. But can not stand the Van Gogh mental illness and left alone. However, in recent years, art history researchers have found that far from being the case, Gauguin is not only not a morally perfect person, a victim of high psychosis, a longing for and a discoverer of the conscious primitive civilization, and most likely violent Cut off Van Gogh’s ears and probably flee overseas for that purpose. As a result, “Who actually cut Van Gogh’s ears” became a pending case. An article written by Li Li in this issue provides an explanation for this outstanding case and helps us to re-correct our understanding of Van Gogh and Gauguin.
