1997年7月1日,台军空中骑兵旅(简称空骑旅)在桃园龙潭成立。这支部队结合了侦察直升机营、攻击直升机营、空中运输机营、特战步兵营、支援营、飞机修理厂等单位,以各型直升机为主要装备,是一支编配有油料补给、飞机修理、通信航管等战斗支援和勤务支援分队的诸兵种联合战斗部队,能够依靠自身力量独立遂行火力打击、机动增援、特战破坏等多种作战任务,具有较强的综合作战能力,是台军“参谋本部”直接掌控的战略预备队。
