19世纪中叶,随着台湾作为通商口岸开放,大量西方人入台,他们留下了大量关于原住民及其生活区域描写的文字与图片记录。本文通过检阅近代来台西方人的著述,以期了解当时台湾地区原住民的出草习俗。出草是台湾少数民族猎人头习俗(猎首)的别称,就是将敌人的头颅割下的行为。猎人头这一野蛮习俗,因其神秘与稀有,吸引着西方人的目光,因而在近代来台的西方人的著述中有许多关于猎人头的记录。甘为霖在探访
By the middle of the 19th century, with the opening of Taiwan as a trading port and the entry of a large number of Westerners, they left a great deal of written and pictorial records of the aborigines and their living areas. By reviewing the writings of the western people who come to Taiwan in modern times, this essay aims to understand the aboriginal customs of the aborigines in Taiwan at that time. Grass-cutting is the nickname for the custom of head hunters in Taiwan’s ethnic groups and is the act of cutting off the head of an enemy. Because of its mystery and rarity, the savage custom of the hunter head attracts the eyes of the westerners. Therefore, there are many records of hunters in the writings of westerners who came to Taiwan in modern times. Willing to Lin in the visit
