一九四一年秋,日寇的铁蹄正践踏着江南的大好河山。黄梅戏艺人桂椿柏(艺名桂天赐)带了一个戏班在贵池所管辖的的乌沙镇一带演出,班子里有丁老六(丁永泉)一家:丁翠霞、丁紫臣、潘玉琴(潘泽海)夫妇,还有马维喜、吴少裘、王恩云、钱悠远、江南艺人程积善师徒、何文龙、陈翠贞、余维新、枞阳艺人方自贤(方老三)、方自友(方老四)、方自德(方老五)、杨友林、陈长生,还有其它地区来的艺人,共有三十多人。
