The 61st UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in New York City on December 13, 2006.This is the first legally binding inteational convention on the protection of the rights of disabled persons, the first of its kind in the history of the United Nations. It is also the latest efforts of the inteational community to protect and promote human rights and development of persons with disabilities. On March 30, 2007, China signed the Convention.
