The Hilo gold mine is one of the most important deposits discovered in North America in the past 10 years. Due to its large size, rich gold content and its unique mineral assemblage, it has become another veinlet deposit of the Canadian Shield. The deposit is produced in the Greenstone Belt with a reserve of 590 tons. From the geological point of view, the most important one is the understanding of the similarities between the Hemlock and other vein-type gold deposits. It is believed that the Helmut Gold Mine represents a typical layered pyrite-type gold deposit. Similar gold deposits are found in similar geological settings in other greenstone belts.
