文章通过对我国近年来在经济发展、科技进步、文化开放和经济体制变革等领域产生的各种思想状态进行分析,从发展先进的生产力、维护中国共产党的执政党地位、发展国家的物质文明和精神文明、发展和壮大党的需要等方面,阐述了新时期思想政治工作的重要性,论证开展现代人的思想政治工作要根据新形势下思想的特点,针对不同时期、不同地点、不同对象、不同环境而选择不同方法,并对宣传、教育、讨论、活动、关爱等5种具体方法进行论述。
