《沉没之鱼》不同于谭恩美以往集中于母女关系为主题的其他著作,它蕴含着多重主题,但是复杂的主题背后却始终隐藏着作者对华裔二代移民身份探索的关注。小说表现了幽灵叙述者陈璧璧对自己所来自的母体文化从排斥到逐步认同的过程,而她的死亡恰似凤凰涅槃,从此迎来了自己的新生。本文结合霍米·巴巴的“第三空间”理论来分析陈璧璧对自己的文化身份定位逐渐清晰,从被动接受到主动传播东方文化,改写东、西方文化的过程。
Unlike the other works that Amy Tan focused on her mother-daughter relationship in the past, the “sunken fish” contains multiple themes. However, behind the complex theme, there is always hidden the author’s concern about the exploration of the identity of the second generation of Chinese immigrants. The novel expresses the process of the ghost narrator Chen Bibi’s rejection of the mother’s culture from which he came from to the gradual identification of her, and her death is like a phoenix’s nirvana. Based on Homi Baba ’s “The Third Space ” theory, this article analyzes Chen Bibi’ s positioning of his cultural identity gradually and clearly, from the point of passive acceptance to the initiative of spreading the oriental culture and rewriting the eastern and western cultures.
