When designing ideals especially for women, Confucianism lurks the root of the tragedy of growth. It requires that women have no individuality. Lin Daiyu is a talented, passionate, multi-hearted, absent-minded and trying to achieve personal choice of women. But it is accused of being a “woman” and “losing her part” as the root of its tragedy. The tragedy of Daiyu is the conflict between Confucian ethics and her personality.
