数字表的发展历史,首先是由美国的Hamiltan公司在1971年初期研制的。其结构是由32,768千赫的石英振子,采用CMOS IC的电子电路,以及采用LED(CaAsP)的4位显示器而组成的。日本对数字表的研制与出售比美国大约晚半年左右。日本业已出售的数字表其结构是由16,384千赫的石英振子,采用CMOS IC电子电路,以及使用DSM型液晶显示器等几部分组成的。目前,这种数字表正趋于商品化。从其结构构上看,一般来说是由32,768千赫的石英振子,采用CMOS IC,LED或液晶(LCD)等的显示器组成的。并指出今后的努力方向,即:如何降低其成本,提高CMOS IC的成品率,减少其检查工序等问题。
