Whether or not we can get in touch with the masses is a major test that the long-ruling party faces. The failure of the Soviet Union and the disengagement of the masses are also a major reason. Serving the people wholeheartedly is the fundamental purpose of our party. Since its establishment, the Chinese Communist Party has taken the interests of the overwhelming majority of the people as its goal. In 1944, Chairman Mao delivered a speech entitled ”Serving the People“ at the memorial service of Zhang Side. In 1945, he also profoundly and completely expounded the thought of serving the people wholeheartedly in the party’s seven major political reports, ”On the coalition government.“ He pointed out: ”Serve the people wholeheartedly and never stop."
