2006年世界杯,成为FIFA历史上第一次全面采用高清技术转播的超大型赛事。高清转播无疑是足球转播的革命,超清晰的画面和细节、高速摄影的运动镜头、身临其境的杜比音效使得世界杯比赛成为一场场梦幻球赛,对观众具有极大的吸引力。2006年FIFA世界杯开战之际,“视”界杯也已打响。为这次世界杯提供信号支持的是瑞士HBS广播公司(Host Broadcast Services),它成立于1999年,旨在为全球200家媒体提供世界杯电视图像讯号。此次世界杯转播,是FIFA历史上第一次全面转向高清信号的比赛。此前,HBS曾跟FIFA合作,为2002年世界杯提供了部分高清信号。为了实现本次世界杯的转播,HBS从决定承担世界杯的高清任务开始已经准备了三个年头,包含采集、传输、编辑、转播几个阶段,协调了大量的人力和物力,耗资两亿欧元,打破了世界杯有史以来的纪录。今年世界杯的媒体中心设在德国南部的慕尼黑,来自全德国12座球场的现场比赛画面送到慕尼黑,经来自58国的两千位工作人员处理后,再交给获得转播权的全球510家电视台。通信方面,由德国电信的T-system负责,提供了包含从信号传输、播送到参赛球队的信息在内的所有服务。为了确保这次比赛转播的顺利进行,还安排了卫星上行通道,确保通信畅通,并且在紧急时刻还有应急卫星系统。
