This report analyzes the overall requirements for the design of the booms and, in particular, validates the expected results of the “Tarrail” booms system. The report continues to comment on the practical experience gained and observations made during the offshore expansion trials under different wave conditions and wind speeds and to evaluate the extent to which the assumed performance in the design philosophy is demonstrated in practice . The conclusion is that the booms have achieved great success and can expect easy mass production of the booms. Boom performance is good, and can be extremely satisfied with ease of operation. Non-inflatable booms storage container is very small. Oil wells that are installed with the booms appear to control the flow of water through the system in a manner that helps to hold the oil slick, although this remains to be discussed. In these tests conducted, the use of a small amount of test oil levied inevitably resulted in a reduction in the amount of oil slick recovered through the back of the well, although this was considered to be secondary since other methods could be used to recover the oil slick. The oil containment unit will be used together with the recovery method as a further research topic in the future.
