《少林拳术秘诀》一书云:“未习打,先练桩”。它说明要习武练拳,先要打好桩功的基础。桩功是武术基本训练的功法之一。通常腰、腿功比较引人重视,一则内容和形式都较丰富,二则武术没有腰腿的柔韧性确也寸步难行。而桩功从形式到内容都显得比较枯燥一些,也不易见到功夫,故不仅容易被初学者所忽略,也常常为一些艺高的运动员所轻视。其实,传统的训练中一向十分重视桩功。《华拳谱》中说:“桩要站,鼎要拿,劲力稳固托泰山”。在闪展腾挪的激烈运动中,要作到静若山狱,关键是步要稳固。俗话说:“步不稳则拳乱”。没有扎实深厚的站桩基础是不行的。传统训练中站四平桩(马步桩)常常要点上一柱
