The amount of fertilizer used in the world has averaged about every 10 years from 1949 to 1980 after the Second World War. Among them, nitrogen fertilizer increased 16.5 times, phosphate fertilizer increased 6.2 times and potassium fertilizer increased 6.8 times. In 1981/82, the total consumption of chemical fertilizers in the world was close to 600 million tons (equivalent to the standard fertilizer), with an average of 28 kg per mu of cultivated land. In 1980, the amount of fertilizer used in developed countries averaged 38 kilograms per mu and the average yield of cereals reached 498 kilos. On average, 142.6 kilograms of fertilizer is applied per acre in Japan, while the average yield of rice is 628 kilos. The average amount of fertilizer used in developing countries is 16 kilograms per mu, and the average grain yield per mu is 216 kilos. In the face of increasing pressure from the world’s population, the continuous increase of fertilizers will be an inevitable trend.
