德国作家威廉·格纳齐诺的众多小说以异化作为主题。其后期作品集中描绘了西方现代家庭﹑职场和人际﹑两性关系中所呈现出的异化表现和异化心理,着重书写了现代人,尤其是中年人身处工业文明所带来的各种扭曲关系中的孤独失落﹑在物质至上的社会里无法找到自我价值时的焦灼不安和面对无法摆脱的死亡阴影时的惶恐与痛苦。在格纳齐诺笔下,死亡不仅指生命的终结,还具有象征意涵,隐喻着时代和社会的全面物化对人性本质的腐蚀,由此所造成的正常社会关系的消亡。
