现实中,每个人都有自己的名字,但绝大多数名字并不像数字只是一个简单的代号,而是蕴含着深意,被赋予了不同的期望,小说中的人物名称也是如此。A.S.拜厄特在为《占有》中的人物命名时可谓煞费苦心,尤其是迈亚·托马森·贝利一名,因为这个名字和人物的性格以及命运息息相关。通观全本小说不难发现该人名的内涵,人名中蕴含着故事,而故事也诠释着人名,二者相互交织在一起,使该小说读起来更加的韵味十足。
In reality, everyone has their own name, but the vast majority of names are not numbers as just a simple code. They are profound meanings and are given different expectations. So are the names of characters in the novel. A.S. Byatt is very painstaking in naming the characters in Possession, especially one by Maia Tomasson Bailey because of the character’s personalities and fate. Throughout the novel is not difficult to find the connotation of the name, names contain stories, but the story also explains the names, the two intertwined, so that the novel read more full of flavor.
