Objective To investigate the relationship between the activation status of phosphorylated signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (p-Stat3) and clinicopathological features of gastric cancer. Methods Immunohistochemical SP method was used to detect the activation of p-Stat3 and the expression of P53 and C-erb-B2 in 74 cases of gastric cancer and its adjacent tissues. Results The activation level of p-Stat3 in gastric cancer tissues was significantly higher than that in paracancerous tissues (P <0.01). There was significant difference in the level of p-Stat3 activation between gastric cancer tissues and depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis and clinical stage (P <0.05) (P <0.05). The expression of C-erb-B2 was significantly different between lymph node metastasis and clinical stage (P <0.01). The expression of p-Stat3 Activation was positively correlated with P53 expression (r = 0.37, P = 0.04). Conclusion The high activation state of p-Stat3 may be related to the occurrence, invasion and metastasis of gastric cancer. The combined detection of p-Stat3 and P53 is of significance in assessing the malignant degree of gastric cancer and invasion and metastasis.
