In order to diagnose the ignition system, various methods of testing each element of the ignition system using an electric measuring instrument have been developed and have been widely used. At technology depots, motor transport companies, the equipment used is often paired up with a set of devices - an engine - tester, which includes: an oscilloscope - observing electrical processes and measuring circuit voltages over time in high and low voltage circuits; Device tachometer; AnVo meter to detect the electrical parameters of the circuit being tested; stroboscopes and pointers for measuring ignition advance; and pointer gauges for measuring the closing angle of the contacts of the breaker. In addition to the engine-tester, instruments are used to measure a given parameter of the ignition system. For example, the synchronic indicator belongs to an instrument that can be used to study the status of the distributor removed from the engine. The industrial sector has been able to produce diagnostic instruments for private cars: the ПА-1, the ПА-2, the АТ-1 automatic tester, the СТБ-1, the СТБ-2 stroboscope and more.
