“六王毕,四海一。蜀山兀,阿房出。”这是唐代诗人杜牧《阿房宫赋》中关于秦统一的文字,三字一句的开篇除增强语言气势外,也很容易让读者转换,进入他的文学想象。时至今日,杜牧的阿房宫想象被秦汉建筑的视觉性取代,成为秦汉美术史的重要内容。周代有可能是首次大一统,很多观念只存在于文献典籍中,直接性的视觉材料并不多。相比之下,秦汉帝国的视觉材料则要丰富得多,且开始在各个层面上注重视觉形象。
