If we follow the intertwined aspects of the original historical materials, novel texts and subject imagination between 1941 and 1966, we may see the polyphonic features exhibited by the narratives of rural novels during this period. The topic of “liberation” of peasants in literature, from the perspective of interrelation between revolution, class and human nature, still merits continued discussion today. At the same time, the full-scale repression of the formal channel of desire under the revolutionary discourse may also leave some lasting and structural instability in the entire socialist literature. The relationship between “individual ” and “collective ” has drawn many difficulties in describing novels of junior and senior peasants. However, it should not be a reason why we completely forgo the “collective” form today. This article also hopes to pay close attention to some submerged positive imagination in the literature-political complex relationship during this period, so as to discuss the tangled relationship between “historical ” and literary narration.
