A ground simulation test system is established to study the harm from electrostatic charge(ESC)on spacecraft material in low-pressure environment,and to develop protection measures against ESC of spacecraft material.The laws of the ESC in low-pressure air,which are quite different from that on the ground,are experimentally studied based on the system.To reduce the damage of ESC on spacecraft system,an electric field initiative protection is introduced to reduce a spacecraft’s surface electrostatic potential.Three protection models are designed,among which one is tested.The result shows that under an applied voltage of 8.0kV,the surface electrostatic potential is 315V without protection,whereas with the protection applied,this potential is reduced to 103V,i.e.32.7%of that without protection.The effect of presented protection technology indicates that studies on electrostatic discharge(ESD)protection of material under low pressure through ground simulations can provide a basis for constructing electrostatic protection system of spacecraft.
