Nearly 60% of CFOs in the United States believe that the absence of public trust has jeopardized the business environment. This percentage is even higher in the rest of the world. The new commercial competitiveness standards, which focus not only on profits, are very conducive to winning back public trust. As Dean of the School of Business, one of the most interesting parts of my job is direct dialogue with industry leaders. A few years ago, I began to hear disturbing opinions: business leaders are feeling the scorn from the public who were formerly politicians. This is a matter of trust, or lack of trust. The 2014 Edelman Trust Barometer shows that less than one-fifth of the global public believes that business and government officials will tell the truth when faced with difficult issues.
