德国首创 在实现机床的高速加工中,主轴已具有很高的转速,但以滚珠丝杠为核心的进给机构因不能及时跟踪,已经成为实现高速加工的障碍。1993年汉诺威EMO上,德国Ex-Cell-O公司把德国Indramat公司生产的直线电机用于卧式加工中心,从而拉开了高速进给时代的序幕。 在1994年美国芝加哥国际机床展览会上,除Indramat公司外,美国ANORAD公司也展出了直线电机,当时正在美国Ingersoll公司访问的日本技术人员,见到了作为自用设备,配有直线电机(ANORAD公司生产)的机床在运行,进一步了解了美国技术的奥秘。据说,GM公司拥有的由直线电机驱动的大型五面加工机床就是Ingersoll公司制造的。
