When tanks first appeared in World War I, the Italian Army showed great interest in this new type of weapon. But the reliability of the early tanks was poor, not much appealing to peninsula mountain terrain countries like Italy. The Italian Army believes that its mountain infantry and mountain cavalry use raid tactics, can completely repel the early tank forces marching along the valley and need to stop for maintenance from time to time. However, the reliability of the tank at the end of the war greatly improved, known as the “ground turtle.” In particular, the emergence of the “Renault” FT17, the first ancestor of the modern tank, sounded the arrival of the Tankan era.
