Susheela and her assistant found that daily given rabbits 50 mg/kg body weight of sodium fluoride. For up to 45 days, the permeability of the myofibril membrane can be increased. As the permeability of the myocyte membrane increases, the creatine phosphokinase alkaloid is added; the activity of the capsular succinate dehydrogenase is decreased and the diameter of the muscle fiber is shortened. Electron microscopy studies revealed that all fiber components, including actin filaments and muscle filaments, were affected, resulting in muscle wasting and energy metabolism disorders. This change can also be seen in patients with fluorosis. Therefore, in the past, the concept that skeletal muscle damage was caused by secondary skeletal and neural factors was not established but considered to be primary. By studying other organizations, oral administration of large doses of fluoride to rabbits can make most tissues including the adrenal gland, myocardium, and kidneys.
