Influenced by Europe, especially the United Kingdom and the “Oriental narrative,” the literary world in the United States began to have purely literary compositions of similar genres and styles since the early 19th century. After the 1920s, American romantic writers began to gradually get rid of the traditional European shackles and demonstrate their own creative personality. Hawthorne, a writer who is good at using the supernatural atmosphere to render the atmosphere, used the words “Oriental princess” and “oriental feature” to express his passionate love in such works as The Scarlet Letter, The Legend of Fu Valley and The Statue of Jade. The mysterious and sexy beauty of the kind heroines. Although the Eastern sense referred to by Hawthorne is not very clear in terms of geography, we can speculate from Hawthorne’s writing notes that Hawthorne is not unfamiliar with the East (China). Thus, the imaginary East (China) is the justification of Hawthorne’s work “The Other”.
