(一)三峡枢纽需要大容量的水力机组长江是世界上最大河流之一,流域广阔,水力资源蕴藏十分丯富。三峡由于其地理位置,地形条件的优越,它控制了全江流域面积的55%和年迳流量的50%左右,在这里修建巨大容量之水电站为极理想之地址。 丯富的水力动力资源使三峡水电站的装机容量最少在1400万瓩以上,为求经济合理地进行开发,兴建电站,就要求设计与制造特大型的水力机组,以减少厂房尺寸,简化布置,改善运转条件和降低造价,特别由于三峡地区峡谷两岸峻峭,绵瓦数十里,厂房布置极感困难,大部分将为地下式建筑,对此要求更为突出。
