新疆生产建设兵团党史工作和地方志工作是全国党史和地方志工作的重要组成部分,分别被纳入全国党史和地方志编修计划之中。由于兵团的特殊性,其党史和地方志工作与省、市、自治区不同。一是机构设置方面,兵团各级均是史志合一的体制,一个机构两套班子。二是编制方面,兵、师两级有人员编制,团级没有设编。三是职责任务方面,按照国家省、地、县,对应为兵团、师、团三级编史修志工作要求,兵团史志工作者必须兼有党史和地方志两方面的理论知识和专业技能。兵团修志队伍克服了种种困难,如期完成了首轮修志任务。至此,全兵团共出版计划内兵团、师、团三级志书324部,其中《兵团志》1部,专业志44部,师志14部,团志175部。计划外志书92部。
