Sun Microsystems issued its financial report for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 1997 (as of June 30, 1997) on July 17. In the fourth quarter of fiscal year 1997, the turnover was 2.543 billion US dollars, an increase of 26% over the same period of last year. Fourth-quarter net income was $237 million, while net income for the same period in fiscal 1996 was only $122 million. Fourth-quarter earnings per share reached a record 61 cents, compared with 31 cents a share in the same period last year. For the entire fiscal year 1997, Sun’s total revenue was US$8.598 billion, an increase from the total revenue of US$7.095 billion in fiscal 1996.
