山前麦原产苏联,又名中引四号属 T.Vul.erythrospermum 变种。1974年引入天水地区农科所中梁试验站,在山地引种试验中,表现耐冻、抗锈、丰产性好。1976年参加品种比较试验,亩产732.5斤,比对照中梁五号增产96.1％。1977—1979年参加天水地区冬小麦良种区域试验网中的高山组(海拔1600米以上)及半山组,三年试验,不论在高山或半山地区均有较好的适应性。1979年8月全区小麦区域试验总结会议确定山前麦为适应高山及二阴山区种植的优良小麦品种,重点繁殖推广。目前已遍布全区各县,今年种植面积已达18万多亩。
