In this study, subjective projection test was used to study the ability and attitude of college volunteers in recognizing English variants before and after Shanghai World Expo. The effective research object was 267 college students volunteers. The results showed that the attitude of volunteers to most of the variants had some positive changes after World Expo. The overall evaluation of British English, Chinese English and Japanese English after World Expo was significantly higher than that before World Expo, showing a tendency toward an open language attitude. The study also interviewed 178 volunteers to examine their attitudes toward different variants of world English after the expo, and the material presents the conservative, neutral and open pluralism that volunteers hold about variant languages.
