Raymond Williams, the founder of important cultural criticism in the 20th century, systematically expounds the concept and connotation of tragedies in modern context based on the tragedy tradition theory since ancient Greece. This article argues that Raymond Williams’s concept of modern tragedy arises from the questioning of Tragedy Death Theory and his experience of modernity. The core of Raymond Williams lies in that it re-establishes the importance of daily experience and personal feelings, while the introduction of the concept of emotional structure makes it Completed the grasp of dynamic consciousness and common life experience in different periods, and thus enabled the “tragedy” in modern contexts to be culturally correct and gain an open and universal definition.
