近代以来,得益于以铁路交通为骨干而构建起来的现代交通体系带来的运输便利,中西部地区棉业生产趋向规模化,并开始从自产自销向商品化生产转变。同时,由于铁路棉运的出现,棉产运销向专业化发展。与之伴随的是,棉市布局亦发生改变,中西部铁路沿线城市普遍取代传统棉市而成长为新的棉花集散市场。
In modern times, benefiting from the transportation convenience brought by the modern transportation system constructed with the railway transportation as the backbone, the cotton production in the central and western regions tends to scale and has begun to shift from the self-production to the commercial production. At the same time, due to the emergence of railway cotton transport, cotton production and transportation have been developed professionally. Accompanied with that, the layout of the cotton market also changed. The cities along the Central-Western Railway generally replaced the traditional cotton market and grew into a new cotton distribution market.
