As of June 21, Beijing, the hardest hit atypical pneumonia, has not confirmed any new cases for 10 consecutive days. Beijing residents started to pull their fingers to calculate the date of becoming a pest free area. In many people’s opinion, “SARS” epidemics are like hurricanes, come fast, and do not go slow. However, in May when the SARS epidemic is rampant, people still remember it. This month, in many provinces and cities in China, the normal order of society was disrupted. The living pattern of residents was changed and the pace of economic operation was disrupted. Fortunately, due to the effective response by the government and the whole society’s concerted efforts, “SARS” has not stopped China’s economic growth. In May, the worst epidemic, the Chinese economy still had a pleasant performance. First, industrial production continues to grow. Data show that in May, the added value of industrial enterprises above designated size in China was 311 billion yuan [see Table 3].
