According to the U.S. publication “Electronic Warfare / Defense Electronics” reported in Issue 6, 1978, because night-vision devices become increasingly important in the European night battle, the U.S. Army will spend between 500 million and 1.6 billion Dollars. Now for the micro-channel plate tube-based second-generation night vision devices set more contracts. The most recent experiment is the observation of the third generation of tubes in the 0.9 micron NIR band. The industrial sector estimates that for each of the next five to eight years, one hundred million to one hundred and sixty million dollars will be spent on second-generation night vision goggles, sights, tank gauges and pipelines each year, the Army Dr. Joseph Yang, assistant chief assistant minister for research and development, stated that the cost of appropriation for procurement may reach 1.6 billion U.S. dollars.
