In the post-colonial period of Nigeria, Benjamin O’Cruck’s “Road to Hunger” is setting forth the story that the once demilitarized nations and nations, still politically independent, are still unable to escape the influence of colonialism. The colonialist ideas quietly permeated all aspects of the newly independent state in a stealthy way. By analyzing the cultural identities of the two main characters in the novel, we can reveal the important influence of the conflict between the original sovereignty culture and the local culture on the construction of people’s cultural identity and the harms of colonial hegemony on the developing countries and peoples.
