刘文西,西安美术学院教授、院长。1933年出生于浙江省嵊县水竹安村,1950年入上海育才学校,1953年入浙江美院,1958年到西安美院工作至今。 他三十余年一直从事繁重的教育工作,同时不断地创作实践。陕北是他的生活基地,每年用不少时间泡在这块浩瀚而浑厚的黄土高原上与陕北人民建立了深厚的感情,并在作品中力求描写陕北人民的特有个性和气质以及陕北的革命历史和风土人情。大量的作品使他以独创的面貌和风采,在中国画坛上形成“黄土画派。”三十多年来,他在国内外发表作品千幅 Liu Wenxi, Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts professor and dean. Born in 1933 in Shuzhu’an Village, Sheng County, Zhejiang Province, he entered Shanghai Yucai School in 1950 and entered the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts in 1953, and since 1958 he has been working in the Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts. For more than thirty years he has been engaged in heavy education, while constantly creating practice. Northern Shaanxi is his base of life. Every year he spends a lot of time soaking up a deep feeling with the people in northern Shaanxi on this vast and vigorous Loess Plateau. In his works, he endeavors to describe the unique personality and temperament of the people in northern Shaanxi, Northern revolutionary history and customs. A large number of works have enabled him to create a “loess painting school” in Chinese painting with his unique look and style.
