抗战爆发后,为解决战时财政困难,国民政府于1937年8月决定发行救国公债5亿元,并成立了以宋子文为会长、宋庆龄等为委员的“救国公债劝募总会”,在国内各地及南洋、欧美华侨聚集地成立相关分会组织,开展了有效的工作。本组史料为宋子文与侨领陈嘉庚之间为新加坡、马来亚地区募捐救国事往来电函一组,反映了新马华侨怀着一腔爱国热情,积极投身救亡运动的历史。
After the outbreak of the war of resistance against Japan, in order to solve the financial difficulties during the war, the national government decided in August 1937 to issue 500 million yuan to save the country’s public debt and set up a “national salvation council for solvency bonds” headed by Song Ziwen and Song Qingling. All over the country and overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia, Europe and the United States set up branch organizations and carried out effective work. The historical data of this group is a collection of letters of correspondence between the prime minister and Tan Kah Kee for their solo contributions in Singapore and Malaya, reflecting the history of overseas Chinese compatriots in Singapore and Malaysia actively participating in the salvation movement.
