The purpose of this article is to use acrolein to explain the extent to which smoke extracts affect how much amino acids are incorporated into a protein. The effect of aqueous extract of acrolein and cigarette smoke on amino acid incorporation in rabbit alveolar macrophages was also compared. The authors looked at the time required for control cells and the amount of leucine incorporated into the protein incubated with cells in the presence of aqueous smoke extract and acrolein. Control cells were linearly incorporated within 3 hours of the experiment, and this could continue for up to 6 hours. The smoke water extract inhibits protein incorporation within 30 minutes of incubation, and after 60 minutes at this concentration, inhibition can be maintained
