It has been reported that the Army’s EW / RSTA Board recently awarded three parallel contracts worth $ 400,000 to $ 900,000 to three companies, Northrop, Rockax-Sanders and Raytheon, for its advanced infrared Confrontation (IRCM) system design and trade-off study. The three companies intend to submit their own findings in about nine months. The Army intends to issue a fully developed request for proposals by the end of next year. Some of the Army’s helicopters now use the ALQ-144 developed by Sunders and the improved ALQ-144AIRCM system to protect them from heat-seeking infrared missiles.
