Archival work in Yugoslavia has begun to sprout in the Middle Ages. However, as Yugoslavia has been under the oppression of Turkey for a long time, the development of archival work has suffered as great limitations as the development of national culture and science. Immediately after the end of World War II, the government of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia took measures to protect and collect archives. In view of the great destruction during the war, the Yugoslav National Liberation Commission promulgated an order for the protection of ancient documents on February 20, 1945, stipulating that all ancient documents are protected by the state. On July 5, 1946, the Yugoslav government adopted a special decision prohibiting the shipment and destruction of any archival material;
