香港文学家司马长风的《中国新文学史》,有其特点和长处。他力求以自我的视野,俯瞰文坛,独辟蹊径,也有某些新鲜有见地的视角和见解。如不仅论述文学革命的背景,还论述文学革命的序幕;又把现代理论批评家也写入史中;尽量收集过去少人论述的作家、作品,力求用较客观公正的态度加以评价。但由于作者某些政治、思想的局限,他的一些点评是脱离实际的,不可取的。如把1950~1965年的大陆文艺看作是“沉滞期”等,无视大陆文艺曲折前进的事实。另外,由于司马长风工作繁忙,写作匆匆,史料错误较多。尽管如此,这部文学史有其独特的史识和学术个性,无论在史的系统性或客观性方面,均明显超过台港地区的同类著作。
Hong Kong writer Sima Changfeng’s “History of New Chinese Literature” has its own characteristics and strengths. He strives to look out of the literary world with his own vision, his own style, and some fresh insightful perspectives and insights. Nevertheless, this literary history has its unique historical and academic personality, both in the history of systematic or objectivity, were significantly more than similar books in Taiwan.
