“声乐套曲”(song cycle)是19世纪德围浪漫主义音乐追求诗意、激情下的产物。据“新格罗夫音乐及音乐家辞典”的解释,声乐套曲由几首结构独立而义相互关联的歌曲组成,常采用同一诗人的作品、相同的故事情节、有关爱情或自然的主题、统一的情绪、相同的诗歌形式或体裁。套曲的联系也可来自音乐,如有计划的调性安排、反复再现的主题动机、乐句,甚至是整首歌曲的再现和统一的结构等等。演出的形式有独唱或重唱,带伴奏或无伴奏,歌曲数目从2—30多首不等。
