5.生态习性有些品种,其植物形态或生药形态相似,本草文献描述简单而不能从形态的描写考定其品种者,应注意其生态习性方面的叙述。例如白前、白薇商品极为混乱,异物同名品有20余种,其疗效不同,且有颠倒错用的现象,情况极为严重。查本草对其形态描述,极为简单,仅谓“根如牛膝,或如细辛……”,很难理解与分辨,故长期以来,对孰为正品,各家见解不一,诸说纷纭,莫衷一是,毫无定论,其混乱现象,自属必然。关于确定白前、白薇正品的问题,其关键之处在于调查其生态习性。
