埃塞俄比亚传统的贮粮方法是把谷物贮存在地下粮仓内。地下粮仓外形象锥瓶,容量从0.5吨到20吨。装满谷物后把木条盖在仓口上。用泥浆密封并盖上土。当密封并覆盖一定的土壤时,这种地下粮仓就形成不透气的贮藏室。如果贮存的谷物有虫,就会因窒息而死。即使粮仓并不透气,昆虫的发育也受到严重限制。地下粮仓和贮存的谷物必须非常干燥,否则就不可避免地发生霉菌。实际曾发现少数完全不透气的地下粮仓有时霉菌造成的损害很严重。
